What is the Eskom Business Investment Competition?
The annual Eskom Development Foundation Business Investment Competition encourages South African entrepreneurs to cross the hurdles that come with developing a successful business by providing a platform for small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to do just that.
Keep an eye out for the 2017 entry dates, which will be announced before the end of 2016.
Prizes of R1.3 million were up for grabs this year, with the overall winner receiving prizes worth R150 000 to improve their business.
Who can enter?
The competition is open to South African residents and black-owned business owners whose businesses are registered and have been operational for at least 24 months at the time of entering.
- Manufacturing: The judges look for businesses that run efficient and effective manufacturing companies producing high-quality goods.
- Agriculture and agro-processing: Ideal for entrepreneurs with a keen understanding of the agricultural environment.
- Engineering: Enter if you have shown determination and dedication to build a sustainable business.
- Construction and trade and services: Enter if you show a firm grasp of the South African trade landscape or provide quality services.
What are requirements for entry?
This year the registration and entry process took place electronically via the competition website, www.eskombic.co.za. Entries must be accompanied by supporting documents including a business plan, business registration certificate and bank statements.
